"Syncopation is AKA Los Cincos, from L.A. Why they're suddenly in semi-disguise, even as they reach musical maturity, I don't get, but...yeah, well, like the Holy Rollers from Sweden, they're also 20 somethings, and even seem kinda innocent or something, but from Southern California, they probably don't even notice how deep is their irony and not clean. They have some other stuff on Sympathy, some of it you might like, but here they finally sound fully loose and in command of their own tongue. The opener is as close to the Voidoids (or Slint) as Syd Barrett (or Can), and it's a ROCK approach that works for a change. They do a Kraut-dub-noise trip that stays raw and funky instead of lad-coat-pickled like, for instance, the Chicago space-rock stuff. "A Very Gory Tale" even attempts a rude-boy free-fiddle showdown, and makes it! The other twenty minutes of the disc belongs to Gogogoairheart, from San Diego..."
